Yakuza Tattoos Japanese tattoos are regarded by many people as the pinnacle of tattoo art. Certainly when you look at some of the images that a great Japanese tattoo artist renders on his canvas, and very often the canvas is one of the Yakuza, you can get goosebumps from the intricacy of the tattoo.
Japanese tattoos tend to be complex, full of colour and detail, and usually extend over large portions of the body. It is not uncommon to tattoo the whole of the back for example, which takes many hours of painstaking work. The reward for the wearer though is a tattoo that is truly a work of art. Nothing like the simple and rather vulgar tramp stamps we see so commonly today.
Japanese Yakuza tattoo artists bring their scenes to life on the human skin, and the artform is much admired and often emulated throughout the world. Japanese tattoos have a rich history, and tattoos were proudly worn in Japan from the early 1600s. In fact often, back then, the wearers of the Japanese Tattoos would show them off and they were much admired by society. Today though, tattoos and tattoo wearers are often ostricised by society and forced to cover up their works of art, especially in corporate jobs. The Yakuza though, who could in a way be thought of as a corporation, encourage tattoing and so, in a wierd way, it is a criminal society of the Yakuza that has brought the intricate Japanese tattoos back into the limelight.
